Alex Villar

Alex Villar (b. 1962, Brazil)

Using a variety of interdisciplinary sources, Villar explores video, installations, performance and photography. In 1998 he received an MFA from Hunter College, New York; in 2000 he participated in the Whitney Independent Study Program, funded by the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. More often than not, his projects, which are a product of his individualised experience of urban oppression and architectural confinement, are involved in a critical dialogue with the public space. All his artistic endeavours share the focus on the thorough exploration of diverse cityscapes. He lives in New York.
